One change I really want to commit to this year is to eat clean & intuitively: fewer processed goods and with less emphasis on calorie counting. For this reason, I compiled a list of healthy snack ideas from here & here, all of which are simple & nutritious.
1. 6 cups of air-popped popcorn
2. Homemade trail mix: almonds, high-fiber cereal (I prefer Kashi & Puffins), raisins, dark chocolate chips.
3. Berry smoothie: blend together frozen berries, Greek yogurt, and ice.
4. Baby carrots & hummus
5. Nonfat Greek yogurt topped with honey, high-fiber cereal, or berries
6. Frozen grapes
7. Apples dipped in peanut/almond butter
8. Roasted chickpeas
9. Peanut butter & bananas on whole wheat bread
10. Laughing Cow Light Cheese Wedge spread on a whole grain tortilla
11. Steel-cut oatmeal mixed with peanut butter, almond butter, honey, sliced almonds, or berries
12. Frozen mango
13. Strawberries dipped in melted dark chocolate
14. Healthy bars: I prefer Luna, Kashi, Kind, and Odawalla. (or make your own!)
15. Flatbread “pizza”: low-sodium tomato sauce, skim milk mozzarella cheese, & spinich baked on a whole wheat tortilla
16. Roasted pears
17. Sweet potato fries: Slice sweet potatoes, drizzle with olive oil, season with cinnamon or cayenne pepper, and roast at 450 degrees for about 20 minutes.
18. Dice a medium apple and saute in a saucepan with a small amount of vegan butter spread (or other lower calorie butter substitution without hydrogenated oil) and cinnamon until golden brown. Eat with nonfat greek yogurt or plain.
19. Avocado toast: drizzle one slice of whole wheat bread with olive oil; top with 1/4 of an avocado and pepper and toast.
20. Creamy, one-ingredient banana ice cream
